Echoes of Life by Destruct

Destruct

Echoes of Life
Grave Mistake

***BACK IN PRINT!!! DESTRUCT deliver an absolute crusher of a debut LP following a couple recent, well-regarded demos. The sound is one that you know and are familiar with; Stoke-on-Trent, Scandanavia, and Japan, but it has been executed to its absolute maximum and captured with a clear and powerful recording. Huge, catchy riffs. Exacting rhythm. Howls of defeat, agony and pain. Taking a time-honored formula, they have lent their hand to making an album that has again breathed new life into the genre. Echoes of Life is a testament to the power of paying respects to a classic sound while simultaneously pushing it forward to today. It’s the sound of an enormous door closing in the depths of hell. Ten-million tons of TNT dropped on your head. Edition of 300 copies on light purple vinyl. Includes brand new 23"x23" poster.

Fullständig Frigörelse by Frigora

General Speech

***4 track unreleased studio EP recording from their Mushi era. The fact these tracks exist, and are as good and as high quality as they are truly the stuff dreams are made of if you are a fan of the Stalin. These aren’t demos, but full-fledged, intentionally recorded studio tracks that just never saw the light of day. This originally came out in 2023 in Japan to coincide with the 40th Anniversary of the Mushi LP, and sold out in mere hours, and remains prohibitively expensive on the second hand market. This is a one-time overseas pressing on General Speech, and includes identical artwork to the Japanese release, by Keizo Miyanishi who drew the cover of the Stalin’s “Trash” LP, and English liner notes from Inundow covering the discovery of these tracks. Truly essential to any fan of Japanese punk.

***Second album by electro/post-punk trio from New York. Too raw to be pure electronic music, too mechanized to be straight rock—a sound inspired by Public Image Limited and The Smiths as well as Bauhaus, Throbbing Gristle, Smashing Pumpkins, and Massive Attack. An adversarial network of ideas, electronic post-punk trio The Wants welcome the possibility that embracing friction can give rise to something cathartic and unexpected. Formed by Madison Velding-VanDam and Jason Gates in 2017, and with the addition of Yasmeen Night in 2021, The Wants' sound is defined by the push and pull of its members' processes: floating rhythms upheaving grounded songwriting, pulsing synths overwhelming live instrumentation. Their new record, Bastard, is an evolution of many of the seeds planted in their debut record, Container (2020), with a refined sense of acerbic emotional urgency and sonic experimentation. Drawing from a deep well of influences across decades and genres, The Wants forge an unlikely alliance of sounds that feels both radical and inevitable. Velding-VanDam channels both the raw power and snark of Public Image Ltd. and The Smiths' romance, while Gates draws intensity from bands like Bauhaus and Throbbing Gristle, and inspiration from experimental techno. Night's sound bridges inspiration from '90s alternative rock like Smashing Pumpkins and Garbage between the nocturnal trip-hop atmosphere of Massive Attack. The result sits in its own category, drawing favorable comparisons to early PIL and contemporaries like Model/Actriz while remaining distinctly their own beast.

Bitter Sweet, Sweet Bitter by Marinetti, Fortunato Durutti

Marinetti, Fortunato Durutti

Bitter Sweet, Sweet Bitter
We Are Time

***Known on both sides of the Atlantic for his baroque, poetic approach to songwriting, Fortunato Durutti Marinetti returns with Bitter Sweet, Sweet Bitter—his most sweeping, absurd, and emotionally acute statement to date. Calling it Poetic Jazz Rock—at once a private joke and an honest descriptor—the Toronto-via-Turin cantautore (Italian for singer-songwriter) delivers an album of maximalist grace, gilded sorrow, and lyrical intensity. The title, Bitter Sweet, Sweet Bitter, nods to Anne Carson’s Eros: The Bittersweet, a book that launches a thousand ideas into the air: the impossibility of translation, the contradictions at the heart of desire, and the fluid spectrum between seeming opposites. That duality animates this album—from its two-headed dog cover art to its songs that twirl between beauty and grotesquerie, euphoria and dread. While his previous album, Eight Waves In Search Of An Ocean, sought sonic hybridity, Bitter Sweet, Sweet Bitter marks Marinetti’s dive into excess. Written with the intent to push his songwriting to absurdist extremes, the album features long, chorus-less compositions swirling in 6/8 time, packed with words, brass, and string flourishes. Recorded live with a nimble six-piece band in a cramped Toronto attic studio, the record captures raw performances—often tracked in first or second takes—and overlays them with meticulous arrangements.

After a storied first year as a band releasing and touring behind their critically acclaimed debut album Today, Galaxie 500 closed out 1988 with a quintessential performance at New York City’s famed CBGB with every bit of their signature intimacy and autumnal bombast on display. The unusual bill which also included Sonic Youth, B.A.L.L. and Unsane was a benefit show for the zine shop See Hear.Captured here in a raw but inspired board mix by Kramer and restored and mastered from the analog source by Alan Douches at West West Side Music, CBGB 12.13.88 is a live snapshot of a Galaxie fully formed, punctuating the end of their first chapter while poised to step into their next with On Fire the following year.

Originally released in 1989 on the band’s own Thwart Productions label, Tangle was the first vinyl release from Thinking Fellers Union Local 282. Coming after their debut cassette, Wormed, By Leonard, it shows the band leapfrogging stylistically into a more mature phase of their patented surreal compositional modus operandi. Tracks like the opener, "Sister Hell," foreshadow the band's later evolutionary mutations and was a minor hit in the underground circuit at the time. The rest of the album is a sleek maelstrom of crackpot dissonance, noise-rock power balladry, schizo-telepathic improv and some of the finest underground music of the era. In short, Tangle is a template and Proclamation of Intent that presages TFUL's classic 90s releases. Originally produced by their longtime engineer and thaumaturge, Greg Freeman, this reissue is impeccably remastered from the original master tapes by Mark Gergis. New and contemporary artwork ties a saucy bow around this astonishing reissue.  LIMITED EDITION OF 500 COPIES!

World of Pooh immensely brightened the dark corners of San Francisco, California during the years 1983-1990, with their most recognized guise being the MMF trio that existed & thrived during the years 1986-1990. This is the lineup you’ll hear documented on this exceptional collection of 45s, compilation tracks and assorted ephemera. The band has ranged from being a footnote for some (“is that the band Barbara Manning was once in?”) to a fondly-regarded memory for others (“the Land of Thirst album is a forgotten classic”) to a turnstile, door-opening band for still others — like me. They arrived in my life as they were slowly exiting theirs, and I eagerly attended a half-dozen shows of theirs circa 1989-90 around San Francisco moments after I moved there. They were instantly my favorite local band, one I was instantly duty-bound to see whenever & wherever they played. Their jagged and discombobulated take on underground pop music was exceptionally fertile, feral and fetching, and it served as a personal gateway drug that flowered my own appreciation for many different kinds of subtle musical tension.I also spent at least five glorious years watching Jay Paget, who drummed for World of Pooh and later the Thinking Fellers Union Local 282, ply his rhythmic trade with much aplomb. He was always a steady hand behind the musical wheel of innovative bands who often threatened to careen off course. And I’ll admit to an untoward admiration of (and fascination with) World of Pooh founder, guitarist and singer...

The Well of Memory (2025 Expanded Edition)
Amish

***Amish Records is happy to release an expanded, gatefold 2xLP version of P.G. Six's second album, The Well of Memory, originally released in 2004. This 2025 expanded edition has beautiful new artwork, re-imagined by Meredyth Sparks and comes with a bonus LP entitled Lost and Live. The LP includes six previously unreleased songs from The Well of Memory sessions and a handful of live versions of songs from the album.Continuing many of the themes introduced on Parlor Tricks and Porch Favorites, PG Six's well-received first record, The Well Of Memory made further nods towards 60's folk artists like Bert Jansch, Pentangle, Incredible String Band, and John Fahey, while also fitting in with contemporary musicians like New York psych folk poster- boy Devendra Banhardt, Anglo-folk traditionalist Alasdair Roberts, and West Coast psych guitarist Ben Chasny of Six Organs of Admittance. Pat's lyrics draw on narrative force, spinning mythology in abstract patterns that stretch moments of clarity between dreamlike sequences. His music, composed away from the bustle of the city in upstate New York, breathes as solemn spirituals.

Saturnian Appendices by Crypt Sermon

Crypt Sermon

Saturnian Appendices
Dark Descent

On the heels of an album widely considered to be one of 2024’s best releases, Philadelphia’s Crypt Sermon presents Saturnian Appendices. A collection of b-sides taken from The Stygian Rose album sessions, the EP offers a deeper look into the psyche behind the story, extending the arc of its predecessor with a darker, more introspective lens. “Conceptually, the new tracks ‘Only Ash And Dust’ and ‘A Fool To Believe’ illuminate the shadowed thoughts of the narrator from The Stygian Rose, expanding on the tensions that arise as one confronts the conflicts between orthodoxy and occult,” offers vocalist Brooks Wilson. Sonically, Saturnian Appendices is firmly rooted in the band’s signature doom-laden dark heavy metal sound. Grandiose melodies wrap around a crushing volley of monolithic riffs for a commanding and epic performance. Featuring three, brand-new, original tracks and a transcendental revisioning of Mayhem’s “De Mysteriis Doom Sathanas” (first heard as part of Decibel Magazine’s flexi-disc series), Saturnian Appendices offers fans a compelling experience steeped in grandeur and philosophical unrest.

Relay For Death is the noise project of the twin sisters Roxann and Rachal Spikula. Their hermetic works consistently reflect a bleak nihilism, all the while carving an autonomous space for survival as the rest of the existence crumbles. Previous works have been published by Hanson, No Rent, Total Black, and RRRecords. The twins offered the consideration that "Mutual Consuming comes from a concept in the philosophies that underpin traditional Chinese medicine theory, where the two opposing states (yin and yang) are 2 states on a continuum and their interactions produce an infinite possible number of states of aggregation. Within this interplay, there is a dynamic balance that is maintained by a constant adjustment of their relative levels. So an excess of yin consumes yang and vice versa." We asked if this has anything to do with the concept of the Ouroboros, to which they responded, "we hadn't thought about Ouroboros, but the eternal cycle of things makes sense too. The gorge fest of existence." Does this relate to previous works? The twins concisely respond to that question in a rare interview in Untitled, "No."Mutual Consuming is a dire piece of isolationist thrum, spectral caterwaul, and heavy gloom through an oblique and abstracted coupling of electronics, noise, and ominous field recordings. As immersive as Thomas Köner’s haunting ambience but fully entrenched in the industrial meditations of MB. Originally published as part of the instantly out of print boxset, On Corrosion - a 10 cassette anthology from 2019 that was housed in...

Don't Like You (Reissue) by Cheater Slicks

Cheater Slicks

Don't Like You (Reissue)
In The Red

"In 1995 In The Red released the Cheater Slicks fourth full length album, Don’t Like You. The band, based in Boston at the time, travelled to New York to record at Jerry Teel’s Funhouse studio with Jon Spencer acting as producer. The result was a completely over the top noisefest that remains one of my favorite ITR releases to this day. Admittedly, Jon’s production was heavy-handed and extreme but, I thought it suited the band and this material well."Prior to the recording the band demoed their material at a couple of different eight track studios in Boston. The demos showed that the band had enough material for an album that would be (in my opinion) their strongest to date. When the album was released it was very well received but there was a small number of people close to the band and myself who were critical of Jon’s production and preferred the straight forward recording of the demos."With vinyl for Don’t Like You being out of print for decades I figured the album’s 30th anniversary was a good time for a re-release and to finally release the demos as well. I think both stand the test of time." – Larry Hardy

No Nos Dejamos Afeitar by Dick El Demasiado

Dick El Demasiado

No Nos Dejamos Afeitar
Calar Music

No Nos Dejamos Afeitar (“We Will Not Be Shaved”) by Dick El Demasiado aka Dick Verdult is considered the first album of “Experimental Cumbia”, also known as “Lunatic Cumbias”. It has never been issued on vinyl before. Blending lo-fi 2-beat rhythms with raw electro-rock, No Nos Dejamos Afeitar emerged as a cult release, sparking a rebellious wave of experimental cumbia that echoed across generations.Verdult was born in the Netherlands but grew up a citizen of the world, moving around through more than twenty countries, including Guatemala, Argentina, Japan, France, Spain...the list goes on. He studied film at the University of France during the agitated late ’60s and also in San Francisco with Georges Kuchar in the early ’80s. He is a sculptor, writer, multimedia artist and musician. Around 2000-2001, he began experimenting with cumbia. It started with chopping up tracks on his MPC sampler, and soon after, Verdult moved on to producing his own music and writing lyrics in Spanish. Recorded in the Netherlands, the No Nos Dejamos Afeitar CD was first released in Argentina, where he subsequently started to disorient audiences there and around the world performing with his band Los Exagerados. His song “Mecha Flan” was performed on Argentina Sports TV Channel for an audience of over 30 millions viewers in South America back when the CD was released, helping to cement his popularity in Mexico, Colombia and Peru. A documentary directed by Luuk Bouwman, Dick Verdult – It Is True But Not Here, came out in 2017 and...

This is not polished, well packaged festival hardcore/punk—it’s the kind that will pull a switchblade on you, take your wallet, and give your money to the poor. Timely like a well-timed gut punch in a street fight, the boys in PI line up the asshole parade of the opening track and knock them down one by one over the next 18 minutes. Lo Que Extranñas Ya No Existe
La Vida Es Un Mus

***LAME is back with their sophomore record. Ten tracks of direct, pummeling and tortured Hardcore-Punk. While the musicianship on this record is superb, with every instrument being upfront, it is really the vocals and lyrics what push the songs to the edge. Sally’s singing is manic, with very introspective lyrics, with a constant sense of hopelessness permeating through the entire record. Bringing to mind the almighty G.R.B. on the vocal and lyrical approach. Musically LAME is part Chain Reaction part the first D.I.R.T. EP, with hints of Midwest HC and Mediterranean Modern Punk. With a very driven bass, chainsaw guitar heavy on the fuzz tone and a very imaginative drummer. Without shadow of a doubt, this record fits right in with other Nuevo Sonido Balear greats. Recorded Halfway between Studio Impala Uno in Mallorca and Ramon’s Bedroom in Berlin. The record comes in a reverse board sleeve with an obi, insert and extra poster. Mother/Bow To The King by Bang

Bang

Mother/Bow To The King
Riding Easy

Formed in 1969, BANG is a highly influential, early hard rock band that's often cited as helping to create the genre of heavy metal itself.  Once considered Americas answer to Black Sabbath, BANG's first significant break came when the Philadelphia band gate-crashed a Rod Stewart show in Orlando in 1971 convincing promoters to put them on as the warm up act. With the interest of the major concert promoters of the day, East Coast Concerts and Concerts West, the band soon became major contenders in the hard rock arena.   The 1971 self-titled debut album “BANG“ is considered an important forerunner to the early Doom Metal genre. This was followed by the monumental “Mother/Bow To The King” album in 1972 which should have exploded. Changes in personnel at their record company and an externally forced line-up change led to frustration and bewilderment before releasing their swan song 1973 album “Music“.Undoubtedly the heaviest of America‛s ‘proto-metal’ bands from the period, BANG also had a strong sense of melodic power, which should have led them to much bigger things. Highly regarded as a cult act by many for years, it‛s now time for this truly amazing rock band to be enjoyed by a new audience. As can be heard, the versatility and songwriting skills of BANG were (are) second to none.

Fresh off the leash, Freakdini is Greydini’s anticipated debut vinyl monster mash and we assure you, it lets loose with a protoplasmic jet-blast of junk-punk poetry and non-wave weirdness, masterfully balancing the chaotic with the concise. Like, imagine a scrapyard wizard levitating peacefully above the endless towering heaps of bent, rusted shrapnel that forms their accursed kingdom. Now: picture that wizard re-emerging in a freer zone as a magnificent bird of prey, winging it high above the mountain of burnt CDs, lathe cuts, and cassettes our thrift-shop magician Greydyn Gatti has produced over the last quarter century, under this guise and Wolfcow. Blissed out and slathered with green slime (a recurring Greydini obsession), Freakdini is that big bad-ass bird, and it’s on the hunt. Only the deepest freaks will survive becoming food to fuel its reign of bird-shit. And that shit is hard to get off once it dries. All fantasy aside, this album comprises two years of meticulous nurturing in its writing and recording. Lyrical influences from conversations with friends and youthful experiences, instant tape splat poems, and sourced out bass tracks from a reliable Wolfcow jammer came into play. Then long winter nights were spent seamlessly mixing it all, this important step done in close collaboration with the righteously experienced José Contreras of By Divine Right...All in all, Freakdini is the culmination of a career of misfitry. Like a bastard child of Captain Beefheart, Royal Trux, and...

Action Pants (30th Anniversary Director's Cut) by Bunnygrunt

Action Pants (30th Anniversary Director's Cut)
HHBTM

***"St Louis e’er-do-wells Bunnygrunt sprung fully formed into the Great Indie Pop Underground of the early 1990’s, when gas was cheap, 7” singles grew on trees, and every zine had a reader. After a hugely successful turn at 1994’s YoYo-A-GoGo festival and a steady stream of 45’s, the band hit the studio in early 1995 to record their full length debut Action Pants for LA scene makers No Life Records. Unfortunately, the band lineup shifted and the track list contracted between recording and release, leaving a few songs on the cutting room floor. Now is the time to re-introduce the world to the Action Pants it needs now more than ever. Alongside the breezy perfection of 'Just Like Suppertime', the clattering feedback frenzy of 'GI2K', the jangle motorik of 'Open Up And Say Oblina', and the other hits you know and love, faithful Bungalos can now feast their ears on the shambling glory of 'Eggy Greggy', the transmission from another planet of 'Maude' (in two parts!), and originally planned pre-release single 'Inanimate Objects'. Meet Action Pants: The Thirtieth Anniversary Director’s Cut! A split release between Georgia’s Happy Happy Birthday To Me & St Louis’s Silly Moo, it’s just like the old one, only, like, better…"

Rosie Jean / The Source Of The River by Creedmoors / Pink Gin Marimbas

Creedmoors / Pink Gin Marimbas

Rosie Jean / The Source Of The River
Igor Records

***Joe Tarowsky has played in a variety of Pittsburgh bands (Neighbours, Park Plan) and currently sits behind the drums in both Action Camp and St. Dude. Creedmoors began as a solo project, with a few Bandcamp singles and a beautiful album of guitar instrumentals (Moonlight Snaps). “Rosie Jean” was based on an idea suggested by a friend. The end result feels like XTC mixed with some Mike Watt basslines to our ears, sounding like a live band rather than a solo project.Rob Rayshich (ray-SHIK) has been a part of the Igor Records family since the beginning. His band the Minimalist Love Gods had two full-length releases on the label and the guitarist also appeared on Bone of Contention’s third album, Fun. An amazing, if unsung, guitarist, Rayshich has continued to make solo recordings in his basement studio, combining his love of psychedelia, layers of odd strings and percussion, progressive rock grandeur and the immediacy of lo-fi.In some ways, both of these songs might be comparable to the music that came out of New Zealand’s underground of the late ’70s/early ’80s, Creedmoors acting as the Chills to PGM’s Tall Dwarves. Or maybe that’s just a clever way to appeal to vinyl fanatics.

***Most of these songs have been around the block several times, some in different neighborhoods, so say the liner notes to this album. What that means is that Mike Shanley wrote some of these tunes while playing in bands like the Love Letters or the Mofones and never got to record them. (He was also in Bone Of Contention, the band that launched Igor Records.)The Harry Von Zells only played a few shows before the sessions for this album started. Along with Shanley, the band features guitarist Erik Cirelli (Emily Rodgers Band, Skelontonized, and others), keyboardist Michael Cunningham (formerly of Neighbours) and drummer Nate Figlar. Wendy Eisenberg guests on three songs, adding banjo and some frenzied guitar solos. Additional vocals were added by Erin Dawes (also of the Love Letters), Jennifer Schmidt (Catamount) and John Young (the Optimists).Play It Backwards straddles noisy and catchy—overdriven bass lines give way to jangly riffs, morphing into drones. Some of the lyrics border on plotlines—discussing relationships, musical obsessions and the strange feelings that accompany writing (a recurring Shanley subject). If that wasn't enough, the band also covers "Stardom Because," a song by Big Dipper, the great, underrated band from late '80s/early '90s Boston.

Cantor's Mind Was Rockin' b/w Better By Bounds by Manning, Barbara

Manning, Barbara

Cantor's Mind Was Rockin' b/w Better By Bounds
Igor Records

***"Throughout her illustrious career, Barbara Manning has sung about a wide array of topics—baseball, arson, pies and of course love, in all its splendored and not so splendored ways. Whatever the subject, her voice betrays a good deal of warmth, passion and gravity. The same feeling that recreates Pittsburgh Pirate Dock Ellis’ acid-based no hitter is the same one that delivers chills with the heartbreaking chorus line, 'I’m still crying for you.'So it should come as no surprise that Manning could write a captivating song about German mathematician Georg Cantor. It also should be expected that she can describe his whole life in three concise verses. What might come as a surprise is how much the song rocks. Aside from her work in the 1990s with the Go-Luckys!, 'Cantor’s Mind Was Rockin’' might be one of the heaviest pieces in her extensive catalog. Before Manning even steps up to the mic, the guitars roar out of the speakers, as if to make sure attention is directed their way.'Better By Bounds,' the single’s B-side, appeared on 2023’s Charm of Yesterday… Convenience of Tomorrow but it comes in a new version here."

***"Greg Ashley (The Gris Gris, The Mirrors) keeps the flame lit with a new solo record for Almost Ready. The album opener, “Medication #11,” has a weary wobble to it, a kind of beleaguered grace that floats the song’s invective on pungent breezes. There’s a sense that Ashley’s done taking shit, finished suffering fools and, honestly who can’t relate about now? The song starts out the cycle on his new album Neon Exotica..."—Raven Sings The Blues

In the early ’90s there were a few like minded friends making a unique style of lo-fi pop music. At the core of this non-scene were Sukpatch, Land of the Loops and The Ah Club, who all tended to play on each other’s recordings. As the decade went on each of them learned how to use their instruments better, smoothing over the edges, but in typical fashion, the early home recordings had a special feeling that couldn’t be replicated with cleaner fidelity and nicer equipment. Sukpatch especially were scrappy and playful, with a definite sense of “let’s try it and see what happens” experimentation, starting off rooted in guitar based, low key indie pop before adding an increasing amount of samples and stacks of analog tape loops to the process. Their 1992 mini-opus Lite Hits straddled the two worlds, hinting at things to come while retaining an indefinable charm. In the meantime, they hit a real sweet spot, scratching that hardest to reach pop-itch.Sukpatch at this time were spread out all around the country, and because of that would send a cassette tape to each other in the mail, with layers being added by each member until a song was deemed complete. Within those limitations they stumbled upon a sound that, when combined with earworm-like pop melodies, brings to mind those endless summer days when you’re a kid, the ones that feel like they’ll go on forever, only to be replaced later on by a blurry sense of nostalgia. A...

Minnesota-born, L.A.-based musician, mastering engineer, and co-founder of the Jungle Gym label Jared Carrigan records solo and in collaboration under a web of guises: V. Kristoff, Congo River Club House, Freaks of Nature, Easy Rider, Lac Seul, Las Cuevas, M.M.C.J., Scout Island, Twin Lakes. Of these, René Najera is his longest running and most liquid. One decade after the project's 2015 debut (as Jungle Gym's inaugural release, JG01), he presents his first vinyl full-length.Painted Life took shape from the seeds of a 2023 set prepared for a string of shows in Japan. Elements were later remixed, finessed, and expanded by a cast of inner circle collaborators: Leech, Tile Plazas, Precipitation, Maria Minerva. Carrigan calls the album a “memory book” – each track a snapshot of cities and sessions, filtered through a fusion of club smoke, mood house, psychic acid, and sunrise electronica. It's music of movement and discovery, celebratory and semi-improvised, chasing the pure essence of fleeting moments.“Simple or grand, it’s all worth capturing.”

Unraveling In Your Hands by Blackshaw, James

Blackshaw, James

Unraveling In Your Hands
Amish

***As long-time admirers of his six and twelve-string wizardry, Amish Records is very excited to announce the release of James Blackshaw’s (kinda) new album, Unraveling In Your Hands. Originally released digitally in November 2024, solely on James’ Bandcamp. The album marks the first music James has released since his self-imposed hiatus in 2016. After much personal tumult including a broken shoulder, the loss of his job and the death of his beloved dog Dexter, James finally felt the pull back to music. He begun to work, not even knowing if his injury would allow him to play the guitar, and then, late last year Unraveling In Your Hands quietly appeared. The title track is the album’s center piece, a 27-minute meditation of precise guitar phrasings and shimmering harmonics, recorded in a single take. In UNCUT, Jon Dale says it’s “an unrelenting, hypnotic stream of shivering strings, tiny flecks of light dazzling as you plunge deep into the repetition, while following a snaky melody through the thickets—is certainly unforgettable.” “Dexter" is a somber piece with a minimal organ melody enveloped by droning woodwinds and scratching strings provided by multi-instrumentalist and long- time collaborator, Charlotte Glasson. Finally, "Why Keep Still?" moves back into familiar sonic territory with fingerpicked guitar accompanied by rolling piano notes. Pitchfork gave the album an 8.0 rating, stating, "The lucidity and beauty of this music feels hard-won, something to revere and cherish."
