***The Nils are a Montreal punk rock band formed in 1978 by Alex Soria. The Nils first gained local notoriety upon the 1983 release of a five-song demo entitled Now. Their self-titled debut album was released to critical acclaim in 1987, and earned praise from Rolling Stone and contemporary punk rock bands, including Hüsker Dü. The Nils disbanded and reformed on various occasions in the 1990s and early 2000s, until the death of Alex Soria in 2004. In 2010 Carlos Soria reformed the band, and in 2015 The Nils released Shadows and Ghosts, their first album of new material in over 25 years. The Nils Now on Artifix Records is the very first time the band’s complete self-released 1983 demo cassette is being released on vinyl. With a sound reminiscent of Hüsker Dü, and the inspiration to bands like the Libido Boyz, The Nils proved at their beginning that they were a band with raw energy that blends hard-driving melodic rock with punk. Tim Yohannan of Maximum Rocknroll highlighted its heavy guitar orientation and hook-filled, Wipers-esque style, marking it as a significant, early change of pace for the era. All five songs from the 1983 demo are on this 7”EP. Pressed on black vinyl and housed in cardstock covers with art by 1980s punk artist Brian Walsby and lyric insert. Edition of 500 copies.

***The Viletones were one of the first generation punk rock bands from Toronto, Canada. They often played at CBGB’s in New York and shared many shows with Dead Boys, Ramones, Teenage Head, Diodes, and many other luminaries of the early punk scene. They were often considered the toughest and most violent punk band in North America, and maybe the world at that time. In 1977, the band released their first 7” inch, "Screamin Fist" b/w "Possibilities" and "Rebel" on their own label Vile Records. The record features the title track, a raw and intense song, coupled with "Possibilities" and "Rebel" on the B-side. ***Warning! was the only studio recorded document from the amazing hardcore band, The Latin Dogs, from Battle Creek, Michigan. This EP was released in 1982 and has never had a legitimate reissue until now. This remastered record is a perfect time capsule of punk becoming hardcore and original copies sell for several hundred dollars. This self-produced effort easily compares to the early hardcore punk released on Dischord Records or Touch and Go Records. From the ashes of some very seminal undiscovered punk bands such as the Brain Police, The Lips are Back, and The Itch, came The Latin Dogs. The band’s sole record was a DIY project paid for by the earnings of live performances. In those days it took many shows to get enough cash to pay for a pressing of a 7" record. It was recorded on a 4 track reel to reel and the sleeves were printed by a shady print shop that went out of business during the pressing, and the band had to break into the building to pick up the half-finished printed sleeves. This record put their early Political stance at attention. The power of a Marshall stack and Gibson SG backed by a Fender P bass with Ampegs at full volume, driven by a thin, wiry straight ahead drummer, fueled by a Jack Daniels drenched rebellious singer, gave this band a unique hardcore sound that was still reminiscent of an earlier punk sound. ***Slivers, Shards, and Tell-Tale Hearts is the first ever collection of classic death / goth punk as created by The Web. Female singer, Andi Hayes, was a Masque (Los Angeles legendary punk club) regular and is pictured with other punk luminaries on the cover of the book Live At The Masque. The Web was born out of the same musical landscape that gave us the Bags, Deadbeats, Weirdos, Germs, and so many others. The Web created their own unique sound that sounded like a blend of the punk snarl and bite of 45 Grave and the alt-rock / goth sensibilities of Siouxsie and the Banshees. Although the band were only able to release one commercial 7” single in 1983, “Walk On Glass” b/w “Sidewalk,” they did record a bunch of great and consistent material from 1982 up until 1991 (some of which made it to vinyl demos). All of their recordings sound like they could’ve stemmed from one amazing recording session! Slivers, Shards, and Tell-Tale Hearts collects their best recordings and includes a booklet with all lyrics and many promo photos from the band. ***CHILD ABUSE recorded three demos in Los Angeles in 1977. This band was a pre-SIMPLETONES (of "I Like Drugs" Posh Boy fame) band with almost identical members including JAY LANSFORD, who went on to also be in the STEPMOTHERS, CHANNEL THREE, and GIGANTOR. These three songs were only released in 2005 on a limited 12" out of Germany and now all three demo tracks have been remastered for this 7-inch 45rpm! Includes an insert with reminisces of the band including the time Darby Crash (Gerns) stole their bass amp from the Canterbury apartments.

***OUTSIDERS are one of the first punk bands from Orange County, California from the beach city of Huntington Beach. This was the first punk band for FRANK RUFFINO, founder/guitar for CHINA WHITE. Other members also went on to start bands such as the BLADES and play in bands such as JFA. Outsiders have a unique sound similar to China White, reminiscent of the faster Black Sabbath songs combined with the guitar drive of the Sex Pistols. This LP contains their entire 1979 studio demo and some reunion studio recordings of more original songs from 2009. All tracks feature Frank Ruffino on guitar. This LP represents a major milestone in Orange County punk history and comes with liner notes written by the singer, DON GROSSE.

The band broke up after a few shows and Shark did not want to leave his original songs unrecorded. With the help of a fellow punk musician, JEFFERY BLAST, the two quickly set up a 4-tack recorder in Jeff’s house and recorded these two songs—”2nd Generation Rising” and “Mary Lou”—in February 1978. Approximately 250 records were pressed and were released by Spring 1978. These were mostly given away. Original copies are now highly prized collectors items that have fetched up to $ 1,200.00 a copy.

***The Reactors first formed in 1978. They played their own brand of fast, raw, and desperate Punk Rock in the unlikely urban city of San Bernardino, CA. The Reactors existed from 1978 until 1982. During that time they released one 7" EP and one 12" LP on their own Nuclear Waste Records label. Believing in the D.I.Y. spirit of the times, they did everything for themselves. The members and their close friends all took different jobs in order to further their goals. Some took photos, created artwork, did layout, produced the recordings, etc. Artifix Records is proud to be the label that will unleash all of their complete 1978 and 1979 studio recordings.The Reactors lasted through several line-ups. The first Reactors before the 7" EP were Mike Rodriguez, bass; Al Zenno, guitar; Brad Uhl, drums; and Elizabeth "Dash" Frost, vocals. For the 7" EP, the lineup changed when drummer Brad left the band and was replaced by "Throbbin" Rob Vasquez. In early 1980, Al Zenno left the group. The remaining members recruited guitarist Tony Brammel, who was in the Sins and later helped form soul-rock alternative band, The BellRays.The Reactors shared bills with many great bands of the time including; X, Fear, Plimsouls (at a prison show), Simpletones, Crowd, Alleycats, Smog Marines, and more. Not bad for three Mexican guys and a woman ex-con from San Bernardino! The Reactors were real punks from the ghetto of a Dead City!
