***The Beltones are, beyond debate, one of the best American Punk Rock bands of the late 1990s / early 2000s-era. Hash it out amongst yourselves if you disagree, but them’s the facts. And that’s why TKO Records is pleased to announce the release of Fort Liquordale: 1995-1998. Collecting damn near all of the material from the band’s original South Florida lineup, Fort Liquordale is the definitive document of the Beltones early history. Side A features the first vinyl appearance of the On Deaf Ears mini album and Naming My Bullets 7” material since the limited 2014 Record Store Day reissue. It’s obvious but nonetheless bears repeating that these songs are some of the finest U.S. punk ever committed to vinyl: mandatory listening for all students of the form. Flipping the LP takes things further into the past. SIDE-B compiles the Lock And Load 7” EP, the My Old Man 7” single, two obscure comp tracks and two tracks from the Beltones’ impossibly rare 1995 demo. For any Beltones diehard, this is as complete a chronicle of the band’s earliest material as one could hope for. ***"Seeing what an integral part Tom 'Pig Champion' Roberts is to the legacy of POISON IDEA, it might be hard to imagine the band ever existing without his six-strings of fury leading the way. But when they first started out in 1980, the band’s line-up consisted solely of Chris Tense on guitar, Helmet’s Henry Bogdan on drums and founder Jerry A. Lang on vocals and saxophone. It might also be difficult to fathom them not coming out of the gate as a blazing hardcore punk unit, yet when they first started out, they were more inspired by the challenging and disjointed sound of New York City’s No Wave scene than anything coming from the west coast of America. 'The No Wave stuff was hard to understand and kind of scary, so that’s what made it interesting' tells Lang, 'But when that first wave of hardcore hit, it hit so hard. It was breathtaking, so I was like, this is what I want to do now'. Now, 22 long years later, the Riffs third and final TKO LP, Death Or Glory, is finally receiving a well-deserved and overdue reissue. Unlike the UK82-indebted efforts of the members’ prior bands, the Riffs took a back to basics approach that recreated the nebulous energy of Punk’s early years, blurring the lines between punk, power pop, and good old fashioned rock ’n’ roll. Like fellow Portland retro rockers Exploding Hearts, the Riffs drew influence from New York Dolls, Undertones and Flamin' Groovies, all of which is wrapped up tidily and delivered with panache aplenty on Death Or Glory. Death Or Glory is an enduring testament to the power of four chords, some swagger, and a denim jacket. Considering Riffs’ membership later birthed bands as diverse as LONG KNIFE, NICE BOYS, and ACEPHALIX, it’s also a testament to Portland’s long and unbroken lineage of self-motivated Punks that continue to make it a Mecca for North American independent music. ***The BRIEFS have spent the past 25 years plying uber-infectious punk that exists in a nebulous space between the West Coast and the West End; equal parts Thrasher and Sniffin’ Glue. Seemly immune to the ravages of time, Hospital Elevator finds the BRIEFS as fresh and energetic as when these bleach blonde agitators originally burst onto the scene back in 1999.Hospital Elevator is the band’s second 7” in a matter of months, following up the High Society single, released at the end of 2024. Despite being happily hunkered down in their Pacific Northwest bubble, POISON IDEA continued to gain cache as the 1980s plowed along, due in no small part to the worldwide acclaim received by their 1986 debut album Kings Of Punk.In their search for a label to unleash War All The Time, their sophomore effort, P.I. landed with the newly-launched Alchemy Records out of San Francisco that was co-helmed by Victor “The Mascara Snake” Hayden, a one-time member of Captain Beefheart & His Magic Band.Recorded over the summer of 1987 and named after a book by famous boozebag poet Charles Bukowksi, War All The Time somehow managed to surpass the unbridled mayhem of Kings Of Punk, as proven by the blistering opener, “The Temple." Throughout its eleven-song duration, Poison Idea's primary inspirations of Discharge and the Germs are on full display. However, the recent addition of second guitarist Eric “Thee Vegetable” Olsen and the double-bass thunder of drummer Steve "Thee Slayer Hippy" Hanford brought a more metallic flare to tracks like “Hot Time," “Typical” and the pulverizing rendition of Motorhead’s “Motorhead”. As the next volume in TKO’s Poison Idea Remasters series, this newly sourced version of "War All The Time" proves the album to be a crucial, if sometimes overlooked, part of the band's hefty oeuvre.

***Among the impressive discography by Portland, OR Hardcore Punk forerunners POISON IDEA, their 1986 debut LP Kings Of Punk is considered one of the most important entries. Originally released on the Pusmort label owned and operated by legendary visual artist Brian “Pushead” Schroeder (Misfits, Metallica), Kings Of Punk introduced Poison Idea to a wide audience than their previously the self-released and distributed releases on Fatal Erection, the record label co-run by their guitarist Tom “Pig Champion” Roberts. Taking full advantage of the situation, Poison Idea made sure their first full-length release would make an impact on the American Hardcore Punk scene. From the grisly, full-color cover image of the band’s name carved into the chest of vocalist Jerry A. Lang to the blistering music contained within, Kings Of Punk was convincing enough to earn Poison Idea the attention that helped spread their legend and kicked off the band's most prolific period: the late 80s - early 90s. Out-of-print since TKO’s ephemera-packed “Portland Edition” version from the summer of 2022, Kings Of Punk now returns as the third installment in TKO’s Poison Idea Remasters series. ***ROSE OF VICTORY originally was a studio collaboration between NEIL "MACKIE" MCLENNAN and NIGEL "NIDGE" MILLER Neil (1958-2007), both founding members the iconic UK Punk/Oi! band BLITZ. McLennan and Miller's post-Blitz project released one well-received 7" single on No Future Records in 1983, before fading into legend—until now. Teaming up with drummer GREG BOULTON (the VIOLATORS, SKINGRAFT, EPIC PROBLEM) and vocalists DAMIAN ABRAHAM (FUCKED UP) and TOBIAS GRAVE (SOFT KILL), Mackie has resurrected the ROSE OF VICTORY project, resulting in the "Full Circle" 7" single. Sourced directly from the house engineer's cassette, The Beast Goes East captures a raw, blistering performance from the Kings Of Punk, just months before the release of their 1990 masterpiece Feel The Darkness. The Beast Goes East is presented in a deluxe gatefold jacket, designed by John Yates in his signature "Punk Note" style, with liner notes from Rettman, (who was in the audience that night).
