Rhythm Immortal by Carrier

Carrier

Rhythm Immortal
Modern Love

One of 2025’s definitive electronic LPs lands on Modern Love with Carrier’s momentous debut album featuring eight elegantly rude arrangements of frictional syncopation and bodies-off-ground levity featuring Voice Actor & Memotone and summoning a noirish, jazzier frisson to his signature, wraithlike dubtech metrics and temporalities, as taught by everyone from Photek to Rhythm & Sound, Torsten Pröfrock and Burial. Since hard-snagging our ears and feet in 2023 with 12”s for FELT and his own label, Guy Brewer’s Carrier has become the go-to project for those who had almost given up on chasing this sort of ultra-subtle but vitally distinctive new permutations in dance music. For the past two years his unpredictable variations within a style have kept us all tip-toed and seat-edge with organisations of a finely chiselled percussive palette and smouldering ambient noise that distills the salient aspects and spirits of D&B, dub techno, and electro-acoustic music with utterly unique traction. In effect, he’s enacted a clear leap of imagination and proprioception from previous work issued as part of Commix and solo as Shifted that only continues to reveal absorbing new fissures and hallucinatory psychoacoustics on this first album detail. Previewed at Berlin Atonal ’25, ‘Rhythm Immortal’ now sees Brewer tilt the project into slower, resoundingly atmospheric realms, better to luxuriate in the instinctive guile and integer-stepping style ’n pattern of his incredible sound. At the album’s poles, a vocal cameo by cult gynoid Voice Actor follows from Gavsborg’s on a preceding 7” single to ideally model his sound’s...

The Fan Dance by Carrier

The Fan Dance
Modern Love

For Modern Love’s fantasy jukebox series, Equiknoxx captain Gavsborg lends the sickest vox to Carrier’s obsessively modernist steppers production - a masterful twist of low-end futurism that’s a huge tip if yr into Rhythm & Sound, T++, Tricky, Burial, Photek. Preceded by a reputation as this decade’s leading innovator of dub techno x D&B hybrids, Carrier takes his debut Modern Love bow as an opportunity to fully lean into the dubwise fundamentals that link his variegated but tightly themed work as Carrier. And who better to grasp the brief than Kingston-via-Berlin producer and vocalist Gavsborg, whose run of productions for Equiknoxx and remixes for everyone from Busy Signal to Thom Yorke have more recently given way to an uber distinctive and screwed vocal style, here poised dread moody and dead sexy in the echo chamber. A-side ‘The Fan Dance’ is a pure masterclass in minimalist and hard hitting style & pattern, harnessing uncannily intimate vox in a super wide stereo field webbed with flint struck steppers hi-hats, speaker-massaging subs and illusory 3D spectres unveiled in drily skeletal form on a B-side dub that better reveals its whirring, under-the-hood mechanics recalling earliest Burial via latter T++. It’s one of Carrier’s definitive works of this current, formative phase, paving way for a debut album coming later this year on Modern Love and a premiere of his Rhythm Immortal project with Riyo Nemeth at Berlin Atonal ’25.
